Meet the Author:

Kathryn M. Tschiegg

Kathryn was born to Robert E. Tschiegg and Mary Jean Weeman on April 30, 1956. She graduated from Orrville High School in 1974. She completed her nursing degree in 1978. Kathy joined the Peace Corps as a Registered Nurse. After witnessing two years of preventable deaths, Kathy returned to the U.S. for the following fifteen years. She worked as an Emergency Room and Surgical Intensive Care Unit nurse at Aultman Hospital. During that time, she was recognized as Employee of the Year and received the Outstanding Alumni Award.

But the memories of Honduras continued to follow her, and she became determined to develop a system that would deliver sustainable quality care to the poor of Central America. She returned to college for her business degree, and upon graduation, she founded Central American Medical Outreach, Inc. (CAMO USA) and incorporated it as a 501(c)3 in May 1993. With her goal of bringing health care to the poor, CAMO’s Counterpart Model has become a template for successful aid work in western Honduras. She has been recognized by many for her life’s work.

Over the last 30 years, CAMO has grown into a prominent nonprofit organization based in Orrville, Ohio.  In 1997 she established an additional legal entity known as Foundation CAMO, which operates in Santa Rosa de Copán Honduras. The organization’s impact has expanded to reach every state in Honduras, delivering crucial services such as education, medical care, community development, and the collection and distribution of vital supplies and equipment.

In 2006, a for-profit entity known as INSSA “Social Investment Association” was founded to bolster support for the nonprofit initiatives.

Embark on a roller-coaster of emotion in:

“Hope for the Forgotten … My Unlikely Journey,”

This book is Kathy’s remarkable life story of faith, tenacity and perseverance in overcoming obstacles. These life experiences lead her to help those who the world seems to want to forget. Many joined her and together their tireless efforts against all odds have saved countless lives in underdeveloped countries. In the book, Kathryn shares her life story as a child, nurse, and leader and what she has learned about what is effective and perhaps more importantly what is not effective in aiding the poor, in underdeveloped countries.
